Choose your destination
Our Academy scheme has two career destinations - Financial Planner or Paraplanner. Here's the detail.
A Paraplanner is someone who works closely with a Financial Adviser and helps deliver and maintain a financial plan for a client. This is a varied 'backoffice' role that requires a number of different skills. It usually starts with carrying out research and analysis to identify potential financial solutions for a client, culminating in writing a report that sets out what we are recommending and why.
This short video from the PFS on the role of the Paraplanner contains the answers to some frequently asked questions...
Chartered Financial Planner
Financial Planners help individuals and companies navigate the complexities of the financial world to help them meet their individual needs and objectives. This could be anything from helping a client to budget properly, start saving in a pension or mitigate their inheritance tax liability. This is a client facing role that involves dedication, hard work and long hours. The rewards are life long relationships with clients and great financial prospects.
Choose your path...
Whichever path you choose, we will support you in getting the relevant industry approved qualifications you require to do the role.
For Paraplanners this is a minimum of the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (although we encourage all of our team to continue their studies after this).
For Chartered Financial Planners this is the CII Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning, which leads on to Chartered Financial Planner status, potentially followed by Fellowship.
We understand that as you learn more about our firm and financial services in general, you may find your interest or skill set lies outside of the above paths. LIFT is a flexible company and we would always try and find a place for good people in other departments including compliance, mortgages, commercial insurance or administration, should you wish to change path further down the line.
